A sausage in a roll, a slice of salami or ham in a sandwich, a rasher of bacon with eggs: each can be logged by the piece or the slice, and USDA's piece weights here run from 8.1 g to 70 g. This guide gives six reference rows from USDA FoodData Central for chicken, turkey and meatless versions, each with the piece or slice weight USDA prints on the record. They are generic US records, not a brand and not a shop's own sausage, and Indian food tables (IFCT 2017) have no sausage, salami, bacon or ham slice row at all.

The short answer

By the USDA records below, one chicken frankfurter (a 45 g link) is about 100 kcal, and so is one turkey frankfurter (45 g). A 28 g serving of cooked turkey salami is about 48 kcal, one slice of microwaved turkey bacon (8.1 g) about 30 kcal, and a 20 g cubic inch of extra lean turkey ham about 27 kcal. The meatless frankfurter record (70 g) is about 163 kcal. Our reading: per 100 g the rows run from 134 kcal (turkey ham) to 368 kcal (turkey bacon), but the pieces are so different in weight that the slice or link you eat decides the number: a bacon slice is 8.1 g, a salami serving 28 g and a frankfurter 45 g. Two slices of bacon are 2 × 8.1 = 16.2 g, about 60 kcal by our arithmetic.

Calories per piece

Each figure is our arithmetic: kcal per 100 g times the grams in the piece, divided by 100, rounded to the nearest kcal with half rounding up. The piece weights are USDA's, printed on each record page, except the two-slice bacon row, which is our doubling of the one-slice weight.

The sums: meatless frankfurter 233 × 70 / 100 = 163.1, so 163 kcal; chicken frankfurter 223 × 45 / 100 = 100.35, so 100; turkey frankfurter 223 × 45 / 100 = 100.35, so 100; turkey salami 172 × 28 / 100 = 48.16, so 48; turkey bacon 368 × 8.1 / 100 = 29.81, so 30, and 368 × 16.2 / 100 = 59.62, so 60; turkey ham 134 × 20 / 100 = 26.8, so 27 kcal. Protein, fat and carbohydrate are the same arithmetic on the per 100 g figures, rounded to 0.1 g with half rounding up.

Where NYUS fits (our app)

We make NYUS, so read this as ours. NYUS is an AI fitness and nutrition coach in early access on Android, with no ads and no data selling. You log foods yourself by searching 8,900+ Indian and global foods or by barcode, and a weekly check-in adjusts your calories, macros and step goal once enough is logged. Barcode coverage of Indian packaged foods is not complete, so search by name when a scan finds nothing.

The per portion figures, the sums, the rounding, the two-slice bacon row, the comparisons and every sentence starting "Our reading" are NYUS's own arithmetic or opinion, not from USDA. The portion weights in the tables are USDA's, printed on the record pages above, except the two-slice bacon row. The names in the first column are USDA's record names, shortened for ham.

Frequently asked questions

How many calories are in a chicken or turkey frankfurter?

The USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy records 171624 (Frankfurter, chicken) and 171625 (Frankfurter, turkey) each print 223 kcal per 100 g and list one link or frankfurter as 45 g, which is about 100 kcal by our arithmetic (223 x 45 / 100 = 100.35). USDA also lists 3 oz (85 g) of the chicken record, about 190 kcal. They are generic US records, not a brand or a shop sausage.

How many calories are in a slice of salami or ham?

USDA SR Legacy 172937 (Salami, cooked, turkey) prints 172 kcal per 100 g and lists 1 serving as 28 g, about 48 kcal by our arithmetic (172 x 28 / 100 = 48.16). USDA SR Legacy 168092 (Ham, turkey, sliced, extra lean, prepackaged or deli) prints 134 kcal per 100 g and lists 1 cubic inch as 20 g, about 27 kcal. A deli slice may be thicker or thinner, so weigh yours.

How many calories are in a slice of bacon?

USDA SR Legacy 171639 (Bacon, turkey, microwaved) prints 368 kcal per 100 g and lists 1 slice as 8.1 g, about 30 kcal by our arithmetic (368 x 8.1 / 100 = 29.81). Two slices, our doubling of USDA’s slice weight, are 16.2 g, about 60 kcal. Fried in oil it differs, and the oil is a separate food.

Is there a number for a meatless frankfurter?

Yes. USDA SR Legacy 169887 (Frankfurter, meatless) prints 233 kcal per 100 g and lists 1 frankfurter as 70 g, about 163 kcal by our arithmetic (233 x 70 / 100 = 163.1), and 1 cup of slices as 140 g. It is a generic record; a pack of vegetarian sausages may differ, so read the pack for yours.

Why are pork and beef sausages not in this guide?

USDA also has pork and beef records, but this guide uses only the chicken, turkey and meatless ones. IFCT 2017 has no sausage, salami, bacon, frankfurter or ham slice row either; its only match is O050 Pork, ham, a raw pork cut, which is not a sliced ham and which we do not use.

Can I log a sausage or a slice of ham in NYUS?

NYUS is our app. You log foods yourself by searching 8,900+ Indian and global foods or by barcode; log the sausage or slice by count or weight, and the bun and sauce separately. NYUS is in early access on Android: 30-day free trial, then plans from ₹499 for one month, paid once with no auto-renewal, no card needed to start.
