Honey Chilli Potato Calories: Less Oil and More Oil
Track this in NYUS. NYUS builds a workout plan and an Indian-food diet plan from your goal, body, schedule and food preferences.
Try NYUS free on AndroidThe figures on this page are built from IFCT 2017 Table 1 rows and, where Table 1 has no row, USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy records. No primary table has a honey chilli potato record: IFCT 2017, the Indian Food Composition Tables from ICMR-NIN, prints raw foods (its few cooked rows are boiled and omelette eggs and roasted vermicelli), has no honey, cornflour, cornstarch or soy sauce row, and has no chilli potato, no fried potato and no cooking oil row, and USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy has no honey chilli potato record. So this page does not quote a number. It works one plate out line by line: the raw potato, garlic, onion and green chilli from named IFCT rows, the cornflour, honey and soy sauce from USDA records from named rows and the oil from a USDA record, with weights that are our assumptions and the oil shown apart so you can see what it adds, once with 15 g of oil and once with 30 g. They are estimates, shown so you can change the weights to match your pan. For the USDA hash brown and potato records see our hash brown and potato per cup guide, for another fried potato snack our aloo tikki guide, for another Indian-Chinese dish worked out the same way our gobi manchurian guide, and for the spoon values our ghee, oil and sugar guide.
The short answer
By our working, one plate of honey chilli potato with a little oil (200 g raw potato, 15 g cornflour (USDA cornstarch), 15 g honey, 8 g soy sauce, 4 g garlic, 20 g onion and 3 g green chilli and 15 g of peanut oil (about 3.3 teaspoons)) is about 395.1 kcal and 4.5 g protein, and one plate with more oil (200 g raw potato, 15 g cornflour (USDA cornstarch), 15 g honey, 8 g soy sauce, 4 g garlic, 20 g onion and 3 g green chilli and 30 g of peanut oil (about 2.2 tablespoons)) is about 527.7 kcal and 4.5 g protein. Scaling the raw potato from 150 to 250 g (every other ingredient scaled with it) and the oil from 10 to 20 g the less oil plate runs 285.7 to 505.2 kcal, and with 25 to 40 g of oil the more oil plate runs 418.3 to 682.0 kcal. These are estimates from the weights below, not measured values, not from a honey chilli potato record and not a shop or restaurant figure. Our reading: the parts of the less oil main case rank the potato 139.6 kcal, the oil 132.6 kcal, the cornflour 57.2 kcal, the honey 45.6 kcal, the garlic, onion and green chilli 15.9 kcal, the soy sauce 4.2 kcal; the parts of the more oil main case rank the oil 265.2 kcal, the potato 139.6 kcal, the cornflour 57.2 kcal, the honey 45.6 kcal, the garlic, onion and green chilli 15.9 kcal, the soy sauce 4.2 kcal; and the more oil plate is 132.6 kcal above the other because only the oil differs.
Table rows used, per 100 g
IFCT 2017 Table 1 prints, per 100 g edible portion, water, protein, ash, total fat, total dietary fibre, insoluble and soluble fibre, carbohydrate and energy in kJ. We read these 4 rows from the PDF text on 3 November 2026, as the mean of the regions shown (PDF pages in the Sources); the kcal is ours (kJ divided by 4.184, to 0.1). IFCT prints no portion weights; every row here is raw, so we count raw weight, and the weight the potato fingers gain or lose in frying and the part of the honey that stays in the pan are not printed in any table; the potato is counted raw, and the cornflour, honey and soy sauce are USDA records, not the same as every brand or home batter.

The oil and honey, cornflour and soy sauce: USDA SR Legacy, per 100 g
IFCT 2017 Table 1 has no cooking oil row and no honey, cornflour or soy sauce row, so those come from USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy; they are US records. Energy is USDA's kcal with the kJ beside it; water, protein, total fat and carbohydrate (by difference) are in g, then fibre (g), total sugars (g) and sodium (mg), all per 100 g.

The data-type label on each USDA field, as the record shows it
USDA's record page shows a data-type label beside some fields and none beside others. This table copies what the record shows, read field by field from the nutrient table of the record page; "no label shown" means the record prints no label there, and "not printed" means the record has no row for that field. We do not interpret the labels beyond printing them. IFCT 2017 prints no such labels.

The household portions USDA prints for the USDA records
These are the entries in the records' Measures lists, as printed; the other entry is 100 g. This page counts the oil in grams and takes 1 teaspoon as 4.5 g and 1 tablespoon as 13.5 g, the oil record's own measures. The kcal in the last column is ours: the printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100, shown to 0.1.
| Food (USDA record name) | Source | Portion as USDA prints it | Energy for the portion (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 tsp (4.5 g) | 39.8 kcal |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 cup (216 g) | 1909.4 kcal |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 tbsp (13.5 g) | 119.3 kcal |
| Honey | SR Legacy 169640 | 1 cup (339 g) | 1030.6 kcal |
| Honey | SR Legacy 169640 | 1 tbsp (21 g) | 63.8 kcal |
| Honey | SR Legacy 169640 | 1 packet (0.5 oz) (14 g) | 42.6 kcal |
| Cornstarch | SR Legacy 169698 | 1 cup (128 g) | 487.7 kcal |
| Soy sauce made from soy and wheat (shoyu) | SR Legacy 174277 | 1 individual packet (8.9 g) | 4.7 kcal |
| Soy sauce made from soy and wheat (shoyu) | SR Legacy 174277 | 1 tbsp (16 g) | 8.5 kcal |
| Soy sauce made from soy and wheat (shoyu) | SR Legacy 174277 | 1 tsp (5.3 g) | 2.8 kcal |
| Soy sauce made from soy and wheat (shoyu) | SR Legacy 174277 | 1 cup (255 g) | 135.2 kcal |
The portion sums: 171410 1 tsp (4.5 g): 884 × 4.5 / 100 = 39.78, so 39.8 kcal; 171410 1 cup (216 g): 884 × 216 / 100 = 1909.44, so 1909.4 kcal; 171410 1 tbsp (13.5 g): 884 × 13.5 / 100 = 119.34, so 119.3 kcal; 169640 1 cup (339 g): 304 × 339 / 100 = 1030.56, so 1030.6 kcal; 169640 1 tbsp (21 g): 304 × 21 / 100 = 63.84, so 63.8 kcal; 169640 1 packet (0.5 oz) (14 g): 304 × 14 / 100 = 42.56, so 42.6 kcal; 169698 1 cup (128 g): 381 × 128 / 100 = 487.68, so 487.7 kcal; 174277 1 individual packet (8.9 g): 53 × 8.9 / 100 = 4.72, so 4.7 kcal; 174277 1 tbsp (16 g): 53 × 16 / 100 = 8.48, so 8.5 kcal; 174277 1 tsp (5.3 g): 53 × 5.3 / 100 = 2.81, so 2.8 kcal; 174277 1 cup (255 g): 53 × 255 / 100 = 135.15, so 135.2 kcal. By the same arithmetic 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal and 10 g 88.4 kcal.
Worked example 1: honey chilli potato with a little oil
Every weight here is our assumption for one plate, counted raw: potato fingers coated in cornflour and fried, then tossed with garlic, onion, green chilli, soy sauce and honey, counted as one dry plate from the raw weights (our assumption: 200 g of raw potato); the oil is the oil the potato takes up in frying and tossing, an amount we assume, not the oil put in the pan. Each IFCT line is the kJ divided by 4.184, times the grams, divided by 100, to 0.1 kcal; each USDA line is the printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100; protein is the table's protein per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100. Salt and spice powders are not counted.
| Ingredient (our weight) | Row | Grams | kcal per 100 g | kcal | Protein (g) |

The two main cases side by side
These are the single examples used in the short answer; each follows from the tables above and from the weights in the cell.
| Main case (our weights) | kcal | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|
| Less oil, one plate: 200 g raw potato, 15 g cornflour (USDA cornstarch), 15 g honey, 8 g soy sauce, 4 g garlic, 20 g onion and 3 g green chilli and 15 g of peanut oil (about 3.3 teaspoons) | 395.1 | 4.5 |
| More oil, one plate: 200 g raw potato, 15 g cornflour (USDA cornstarch), 15 g honey, 8 g soy sauce, 4 g garlic, 20 g onion and 3 g green chilli and 30 g of peanut oil (about 2.2 tablespoons) | 527.7 | 4.5 |
What stands out in the numbers
- Less oil, part by part: the potato 139.6 kcal, the oil 132.6 kcal, the cornflour 57.2 kcal, the honey 45.6 kcal, the garlic, onion and green chilli 15.9 kcal, the soy sauce 4.2 kcal. Raw potato is 69.8 kcal per 100 g (IFCT F006), honey 304 kcal per 100 g (USDA 169640), cornstarch 381 kcal per 100 g (USDA 169698) and the oil 884 kcal per 100 g (USDA 171410).
- More oil, part by part: the oil 265.2 kcal, the potato 139.6 kcal, the cornflour 57.2 kcal, the honey 45.6 kcal, the garlic, onion and green chilli 15.9 kcal, the soy sauce 4.2 kcal; against the less oil plate the oil is 132.6 kcal higher, and that is the whole difference between the plates.
- Size against oil: on the less oil plate the raw potato weight (150 to 250 g) moves it more than the oil (10 to 20 g): 131.1 kcal against 88.4 kcal; on the more oil plate the oil (25 to 40 g) moves it more than the raw potato weight (150 to 250 g): 132.6 kcal against 131.1 kcal. Each 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal.
- Protein: about 4.5 g in either plate (the oil adds none).
- These are estimates: no honey chilli potato record exists, the weights are ours, and a different weight of any ingredient in the tables above will change them.
Why these are estimates, not your honey chilli potato
- No record exists for the dish. IFCT 2017 prints raw foods and no cooked dish, and the USDA SR Legacy searches found no honey chilli potato record (0 results for honey chilli potato, 0 results for chilli potato). There is no SR Legacy record for honey chilli potato or for chilli potato at all (0 results for each); honey, cornstarch and soy sauce are used as separate ingredient records.
- The weights are assumptions. No table prints how much of each ingredient or of the oil a plate takes; ours are stated so you can replace them.
- Raw weights. No table prints the weight of the honey chilli potato after cooking, so the page counts raw weight and cannot give a per 100 g or per plate figure.
- Only the oil in the pan is counted. Oil used any other way, or left in the pan, is not counted unless it is in the oil weight.
- US data. The oil row and the honey, cornflour and soy sauce row are US records; IFCT Table 1 has no oil row.
- Labels are printed, not judged. Calculated and Assumed zero are USDA's words on the record; we print them and draw no conclusion from them.
How to log it so the numbers hold
- Log it by parts. Weigh the raw ingredients once for your usual pan, and log the oil by its own weight (weight × figure ÷ 100); our ghee, oil and sugar guide has the spoon values.
- Say how much oil. It is an input this page cannot know; 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal.
- Say how the pan was divided. The page gives one plate from raw weights; divide the pan's total by the portions you actually made.
- Say what else went in. Anything not in the listed ingredients is not counted.

What this page leaves out
- A measured calorie figure for honey chilli potato as a dish: no primary record prints one, so every figure here is an estimate from stated weights.
- A calorie target, and any claim about what the ingredients or the oil do to your body: we have not looked up any for any person, so we give none. If you have a medical condition or are pregnant, ask your doctor or dietitian.
- Other versions and add-ins, such as chilli sauce, ketchup, sesame seeds, capsicum, maida in the coating, an air-fried or baked version and a restaurant or street-stall plate: not counted here; log them from their own rows (the USDA hash brown and potato records are in our hash brown and potato per cup guide, another fried potato snack in our aloo tikki guide).
- Other fats: ghee, butter and other oils were not looked up for this page.
- Shop, restaurant and packaged honey chilli potato: no table prints a weight or oil use, so we give no such figure; read the pack for packaged ones.
- Per 100 g and per plate figures: no table prints a cooked weight, so none is given here.
- Nutrients beyond energy, water, protein, fat, carbohydrate, fibre, total sugars and sodium: not covered here.

How many calories are in honey chilli potato?
No table prints one. IFCT 2017, the Indian Food Composition Tables from ICMR-NIN, prints raw foods (its few cooked rows are boiled and omelette eggs and roasted vermicelli), has no honey, cornflour, cornstarch or soy sauce row, and has no chilli potato, no fried potato and no cooking oil row, and USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy has no honey chilli potato record. Worked from table rows and USDA peanut oil with weights that are our assumptions, one plate made from 200 g raw potato, 15 g cornflour (USDA cornstarch), 15 g honey, 8 g soy sauce, 4 g garlic, 20 g onion and 3 g green chilli and 15 g of peanut oil (about 3.3 teaspoons) comes to 395.1 kcal and 4.5 g protein; the same plate with more oil (200 g raw potato, 15 g cornflour (USDA cornstarch), 15 g honey, 8 g soy sauce, 4 g garlic, 20 g onion and 3 g green chilli and 30 g of peanut oil (about 2.2 tablespoons)) comes to 527.7 kcal and 4.5 g protein. These are estimates, not measured values.
How many calories are in 100 g or 1 plate of honey chilli potato?
This page does not give one. No table prints a cooked honey chilli potato or its weight, and the weight lost or gained in cooking is not printed anywhere, so a per 100 g or per plate figure would need a cooked weight we would be making up. The page works from stated raw weights instead; divide a plate's total by the number of portions you actually make.
