Join the NYUS waitlist"Brussels sprouts calories per 100 g", "gongura calories" and "colocasia stem calories" are searched in India. This guide gives three rows from the Indian Food Composition Tables (IFCT 2017, ICMR-NIN) Table 1, all raw and per 100 g, with the Hindi and other Indian names IFCT prints: Brussels sprouts (Choote gobi), red stem gogu leaves (Gongura in Telugu, Pitwa in Hindi) and black colocasia stem (Arwi-ki-dandi, the arbi stem). The green stem gogu row and the green colocasia stem row are named on our other pages and are not repeated. Other leafy greens, including gongura with bathua and chaulai, are in our bathua, chaulai, gongura and sag guide and in Hindi in our Hindi sag guide, IFCT leafy greens in our green leafy vegetables guide, root vegetables in our root vegetables and tubers guide and cabbage and cauliflower in our carrot, beetroot, cabbage and cauliflower guide.
The short answer
By IFCT 2017, raw Brussels sprouts are 185 kJ per 100 g, which is 44 kcal; raw red stem gogu leaves (gongura) 153 kJ, 37 kcal; and raw black colocasia stem 100 kJ, 24 kcal. IFCT prints energy in kJ only, so the kcal are our conversion (kJ divided by 4.184, rounded to a whole kcal). IFCT prints no weight per sprout, per cup or per ounce, so we give no per-cup or per-ounce figure. Our reading: the Brussels sprouts row has the highest energy, protein (4.26 g), fibre (4.29 g) and carbohydrate (5.09 g) of the three and the least moisture, the colocasia stem the least of those and the most moisture (91.15 g), and the gongura row the most fat (1.07 g).
IFCT 2017: per 100 g, raw
Figures are as the IFCT 2017 PDF prints them (Table 1, PDF pages 44 and 47), per 100 g of edible portion: moisture, protein and total fat in g, total dietary fibre and available carbohydrate in g, and energy in kJ. All three rows come from a single region. The kcal is our conversion. IFCT 2017 says all its data except poultry and egg is for raw food (PDF p. 27), so these are raw weights. IFCT prints no portion weights, so there is no printed-portion table on this page. The gongura row is named "Gogu leaves, red" in Table 1 and "Gogu leaves, red stem" in the IFCT appendix of food names; we use the appendix name.
| Food (IFCT 2017 row name) | Source | Regions | Moisture · protein · fat | Fibre · carbohydrate | Energy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brussels sprouts (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera) | IFCT 2017 C012 | 1 | 84.39 g · 4.26 g · 0.50 g | 4.29 g · 5.09 g | 185 kJ = 44 kcal |
| Gogu leaves, red stem (Hibiscus cannabinus) | IFCT 2017 C023 | 1 | 87.98 g · 1.85 g · 1.07 g | 3.89 g · 4.24 g | 153 kJ = 37 kcal |
| Colocasia stem, black (Colocasia esculenta) | IFCT 2017 D040 | 1 | 91.15 g · 0.76 g · 0.34 g | 3.01 g · 3.83 g | 100 kJ = 24 kcal |

100 g, 250 g and 500 g of these vegetables, raw
Vegetables are sold by 250 g and 500 g, which IFCT does not print. These three weights are ours: each cell is the IFCT kJ figure times the grams, divided by 100 and by 4.184, as kcal, with protein and fat as the IFCT per 100 g figure times the grams divided by 100, shown to 0.1 with half rounding up. They are raw edible portion; trimmings, tough stalks and peel you remove are not in these figures and IFCT prints no yield for them. None is a boiled sprout, a pachadi or a sabzi.
| Food (IFCT 2017 row name) | Source | 100 g: kcal · protein · fat | 250 g: kcal · protein · fat | 500 g: kcal · protein · fat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brussels sprouts | IFCT 2017 C012 | 44.2 kcal · 4.3 g · 0.5 g | 110.5 kcal · 10.7 g · 1.3 g | 221.1 kcal · 21.3 g · 2.5 g |
| Gogu leaves, red stem | IFCT 2017 C023 | 36.6 kcal · 1.9 g · 1.1 g | 91.4 kcal · 4.6 g · 2.7 g | 182.8 kcal · 9.3 g · 5.4 g |
| Colocasia stem, black | IFCT 2017 D040 | 23.9 kcal · 0.8 g · 0.3 g | 59.8 kcal · 1.9 g · 0.9 g | 119.5 kcal · 3.8 g · 1.7 g |
The weight sums: C012 185 kJ × 100 / 100 / 4.184 = 44.2161, so 44.2 kcal; C012 185 kJ × 250 / 100 / 4.184 = 110.5402, so 110.5 kcal; C012 185 kJ × 500 / 100 / 4.184 = 221.0803, so 221.1 kcal; C023 153 kJ × 100 / 100 / 4.184 = 36.5679, so 36.6 kcal; C023 153 kJ × 250 / 100 / 4.184 = 91.4197, so 91.4 kcal; C023 153 kJ × 500 / 100 / 4.184 = 182.8394, so 182.8 kcal; D040 100 kJ × 100 / 100 / 4.184 = 23.9006, so 23.9 kcal; D040 100 kJ × 250 / 100 / 4.184 = 59.7514, so 59.8 kcal; D040 100 kJ × 500 / 100 / 4.184 = 119.5029, so 119.5 kcal.
What stands out in the numbers
- Energy per 100 g, highest first: C012 (Brussels sprouts) 185 kJ = 44 kcal, C023 (Gogu leaves, red stem) 153 kJ = 37 kcal, D040 (Colocasia stem, black) 100 kJ = 24 kcal.
- Rows to check by hand: the Brussels sprouts row (C012) prints 4.26 g of protein and 4.29 g of fibre, the highest of the three; the colocasia stem row (D040) prints 91.15 g of moisture and 0.76 g of protein, the highest moisture and the lowest protein; all three are single-region rows. We show them as printed and do not adjust them.
Why these are reference rows, not your vegetable
- Names are IFCT's. The row names are the IFCT 2017 names with the scientific name, and the local names are those IFCT prints; we do not say which market vegetable matches which row.
- One region per row. All three rows come from a single region, so each is one sample set, not an Indian average.
- Raw only, no cup or piece weight. IFCT has no boiled, cooked, fried, pickled or pachadi row for these vegetables and prints no weight per sprout, per cup or per ounce, so the common "per cup" and "per ounce" questions have no IFCT answer.
- Edible portion. IFCT figures are per 100 g of edible portion, not of the vegetable as bought.
- Energy is converted. IFCT prints kJ; kcal is our kJ / 4.184, rounded.
How to log it so the numbers hold
- Weigh the cleaned vegetable, and say raw. 100 g of raw Brussels sprouts (our example weight, not an IFCT value) on IFCT C012 is 185 × 100 / 100 / 4.184 = 44.2, so 44.2 kcal.
- Add the cooking separately. Oil, ghee and sugar are in our ghee, oil and sugar guide.
- Do not mix datasets inside one day. If you log a vegetable from IFCT, keep to that row for the same meal rather than switching to a USDA row.
Where NYUS fits (our app)
We make NYUS, so read this as ours. NYUS is an AI fitness and nutrition coach in early access on Android, with no ads and no data selling. You log foods yourself by searching 8,900+ Indian and global foods or by barcode, and a weekly check-in adjusts your calories, macros and step goal once enough is logged. Barcode coverage of Indian packaged foods is not complete, so search by name when a scan finds nothing.
What this page leaves out
- A calorie target, and any claim about what these vegetables do to your body: we have not looked up one for any person, so we give none. If you have a medical condition, ask your doctor or dietitian.
- Gongura pachadi, pappu and pickle, roasted or boiled Brussels sprouts, arbi stem curry and any restaurant or maker's version: no row used here.
- A per-cup, per-ounce or per-piece figure: IFCT prints no weight, so we give none.
- The other IFCT 2017 rows for these vegetables are gogu leaves, green stem (C022) and colocasia stem, green (D041); they are left out because our other pages already name them, which makes the list of rows for these three vegetables complete at 5, 3 used here and 2 left out.
- Colocasia leaves (C018), colocasia root (F004) and kohlrabi rows: different foods, not covered here.
- Nutrients beyond energy, protein, fat, fibre, carbohydrate and the moisture IFCT prints: not covered here.

The moisture, protein, fat, fibre, carbohydrate and kJ values and the local names are exactly as printed in the IFCT 2017 PDF. The names in the first column are IFCT's own row names.

How many calories are in Brussels sprouts per 100 g?
IFCT 2017 C012 (Brussels sprouts) prints 185 kJ, which is 44 kcal, with 4.26 g protein and 0.50 g fat per 100 g. IFCT prints no weight per sprout or per cup, so there is no per-cup or per-ounce figure; the Hindi name IFCT prints is Choote gobi.
How many calories are in gongura (red stem) per 100 g?
IFCT 2017 C023 (Gogu leaves, red stem) prints 153 kJ, which is 37 kcal, with 1.85 g protein and 1.07 g fat per 100 g. This is the red stem gogu leaf (Hibiscus cannabinus); the Telugu name IFCT prints is Gongura and the Hindi name Pitwa. The green stem gogu leaf row, C022, is named on our Hindi gongura page and is not repeated here. Gongura pachadi, pappu and pickle have no IFCT row.
How many calories are in colocasia stem (arbi stem) per 100 g?
IFCT 2017 D040 (Colocasia stem, black) prints 100 kJ, which is 24 kcal, with 0.76 g protein and 0.34 g fat per 100 g. This is the black colocasia stem; IFCT prints Arwi-ki-dandi as the Hindi name. The green colocasia stem row, D041, is named on our other pages and is not repeated here.
Are these raw or cooked calories?
IFCT 2017 says all its data except poultry and egg is for raw food (PDF p. 27), so every row on this page is raw, per 100 g of edible portion. IFCT has no boiled, cooked, fried, pickled or pachadi row for these three, so any cooking, oil, tamarind or chilli is separate and changes the number.
How much carbohydrate, fibre and protein do these rows print?
Per 100 g, the three rows have 3.83 to 5.09 g of available carbohydrate, 3.01 to 4.29 g of total dietary fibre, 0.76 to 4.26 g of protein, 0.34 to 1.07 g of fat and 84.39 to 91.15 g of moisture. Brussels sprouts (C012) have the most protein, fibre and carbohydrate and the least moisture; the colocasia stem (D040) has the least of those and the most moisture; the gongura row (C023) has the most fat.
How many calories are in 250 g or 500 g of these vegetables?
For 250 g and 500 g, see the weights table on this page (our arithmetic on the IFCT kJ figure, all 3 rows); for example Brussels sprouts are 110.5 kcal for 250 g and 221.1 kcal for 500 g, gongura leaves 91.4 kcal and 182.8 kcal, and colocasia stem 59.8 kcal and 119.5 kcal. These are raw edible portion; trimmings, tough stalks and peel you remove are not in these figures and IFCT prints no yield for them.
Are there other IFCT rows for gongura and colocasia stem?
Yes: the other IFCT rows for these vegetables are gogu leaves, green stem (C022) and colocasia stem, green (D041), both named on our other pages and not repeated here. IFCT also has colocasia leaves (C018), colocasia root (F004) and kohlrabi rows, which are different foods and are not covered on this page.
