Bread Omelette Calories: Less Oil and More Oil
Track this in NYUS. NYUS builds a workout plan and an Indian-food diet plan from your goal, body, schedule and food preferences.
Try NYUS free on AndroidThe figures on this page are built from IFCT 2017 Table 1 rows and, where Table 1 has no row, USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy records. No primary table has a bread omelette record: IFCT 2017, the Indian Food Composition Tables from ICMR-NIN, prints raw foods (its few cooked rows are boiled and omelette eggs and roasted vermicelli), has no bread row, and has no bread omelette and no cooking oil row, and USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy has no bread omelette record. So this page does not quote a number. It works one plate out line by line: the raw egg, onion and green chilli from named IFCT rows, the bread from a USDA record from named rows and the oil from a USDA record, with weights that are our assumptions and the oil shown apart so you can see what it adds, once with 5 g of oil and once with 15 g. They are estimates, shown so you can change the weights to match your pan. For eggs by the piece see our egg guide, for another egg dish worked out the same way our egg curry and egg bhurji guide, for bread by the slice our bread slice guide, and for the spoon values our ghee, oil and sugar guide.
The short answer
By our working, one plate of bread omelette with a little oil (100 g raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), 20 g onion, 3 g green chilli and 58 g white bread (2 slices of 29 g) and 5 g of peanut oil (about 1.1 teaspoons)) is about 344.2 kcal and 18.8 g protein, and one plate with more oil (100 g raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), 20 g onion, 3 g green chilli and 58 g white bread (2 slices of 29 g) and 15 g of peanut oil (about 1.1 tablespoons)) is about 432.6 kcal and 18.8 g protein. Scaling the raw egg from 50 to 150 g (every other ingredient scaled with it) and the oil from 3 to 8 g the less oil plate runs 176.4 to 520.6 kcal, and with 10 to 20 g of oil the more oil plate runs 238.3 to 626.7 kcal. These are estimates from the weights below, not measured values, not from a bread omelette record and not a shop or restaurant figure. Our reading: the parts of the less oil main case rank the bread 154.3 kcal, the egg 134.8 kcal, the oil 44.2 kcal, the onion and green chilli 10.9 kcal; the parts of the more oil main case rank the bread 154.3 kcal, the egg 134.8 kcal, the oil 132.6 kcal, the onion and green chilli 10.9 kcal; and the more oil plate is 88.4 kcal above the other because only the oil differs.
Table rows used, per 100 g
IFCT 2017 Table 1 prints, per 100 g edible portion, water, protein, ash, total fat, total dietary fibre, insoluble and soluble fibre, carbohydrate and energy in kJ. We read these 3 rows from the PDF text on 3 November 2026, as the mean of the regions shown (PDF pages in the Sources); the kcal is ours (kJ divided by 4.184, to 0.1). IFCT prints no portion weights; every row here is raw, so we count raw weight, and the weight the egg loses in the pan is not printed in any table, and the bread is the USDA commercial white bread record, which is not the same as every bread or pav sold in India.

The oil and bread (white, commercially prepared): USDA SR Legacy, per 100 g
IFCT 2017 Table 1 has no cooking oil row and no bread row, so those come from USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy; they are US records. Energy is USDA's kcal with the kJ beside it; water, protein, total fat and carbohydrate (by difference) are in g, then fibre (g), total sugars (g) and sodium (mg), all per 100 g.

The data-type label on each USDA field, as the record shows it
USDA's record page shows a data-type label beside some fields and none beside others. This table copies what the record shows, read field by field from the nutrient table of the record page; "no label shown" means the record prints no label there, and "not printed" means the record has no row for that field. We do not interpret the labels beyond printing them. IFCT 2017 prints no such labels.

The household portions USDA prints for the USDA records
These are the entries in the records' Measures lists, as printed; the other entry is 100 g. This page counts the oil in grams and takes 1 teaspoon as 4.5 g and 1 tablespoon as 13.5 g, the oil record's own measures. The kcal in the last column is ours: the printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100, shown to 0.1.
| Food (USDA record name) | Source | Portion as USDA prints it | Energy for the portion (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 tsp (4.5 g) | 39.8 kcal |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 cup (216 g) | 1909.4 kcal |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 tbsp (13.5 g) | 119.3 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 slice (29 g) | 77.1 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 slice crust not eaten (12 g) | 31.9 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 cup, cubes (35 g) | 93.1 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 cup, crumbs (45 g) | 119.7 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 slice, thin (20 g) | 53.2 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 slice, very thin (15 g) | 39.9 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 slice (25 g) | 66.5 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 slice, large (30 g) | 79.8 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 slice thin, crust not eaten (9 g) | 23.9 kcal |
| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 1 oz (28.35 g) | 75.4 kcal |
The portion sums: 171410 1 tsp (4.5 g): 884 × 4.5 / 100 = 39.78, so 39.8 kcal; 171410 1 cup (216 g): 884 × 216 / 100 = 1909.44, so 1909.4 kcal; 171410 1 tbsp (13.5 g): 884 × 13.5 / 100 = 119.34, so 119.3 kcal; 174924 1 slice (29 g): 266 × 29 / 100 = 77.14, so 77.1 kcal; 174924 1 slice crust not eaten (12 g): 266 × 12 / 100 = 31.92, so 31.9 kcal; 174924 1 cup, cubes (35 g): 266 × 35 / 100 = 93.10, so 93.1 kcal; 174924 1 cup, crumbs (45 g): 266 × 45 / 100 = 119.70, so 119.7 kcal; 174924 1 slice, thin (20 g): 266 × 20 / 100 = 53.20, so 53.2 kcal; 174924 1 slice, very thin (15 g): 266 × 15 / 100 = 39.90, so 39.9 kcal; 174924 1 slice (25 g): 266 × 25 / 100 = 66.50, so 66.5 kcal; 174924 1 slice, large (30 g): 266 × 30 / 100 = 79.80, so 79.8 kcal; 174924 1 slice thin, crust not eaten (9 g): 266 × 9 / 100 = 23.94, so 23.9 kcal; 174924 1 oz (28.35 g): 266 × 28.35 / 100 = 75.41, so 75.4 kcal. By the same arithmetic 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal and 10 g 88.4 kcal.
Worked example 1: bread omelette with a little oil
Every weight here is our assumption for one plate, counted raw: a two-egg omelette with chopped onion and green chilli cooked in oil, eaten with two slices of white bread, counted as one plate from the raw weights (the 100 g of egg is two eggs of 50 g and the 58 g of bread is two slices of 29 g, our assumptions); the oil is what goes into the pan, an amount we assume. Each IFCT line is the kJ divided by 4.184, times the grams, divided by 100, to 0.1 kcal; each USDA line is the printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100; protein is the table's protein per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100. Salt and spice powders are not counted.
| Ingredient (our weight) | Row | Grams | kcal per 100 g | kcal | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Egg, poultry, whole, raw | IFCT M001 | 100 g | 134.8 | 134.8 | 13.3 |
| Onion, big | IFCT G017 | 20 g | 48.0 | 9.6 | 0.3 |

| Bread omelette with less oil, main case (one plate) | 344.2 | 18.8 |
The grid varies the raw raw egg per plate (50, 100, 150 g, with every other ingredient scaled by the same factor and rounded to 0.1 g) and the oil (3, 5, 8 g); the weights in the table above are the 100 g main case.
| raw egg per plate (all other ingredients scaled with it) | 3 g oil | 5 g oil | 8 g oil | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 g raw egg | 176.4 | 194.1 | 220.6 | 9.4 |
| 100 g raw egg (main case) | 326.5 | 344.2 | 370.7 | 18.8 |
| 150 g raw egg | 476.4 | 494.1 | 520.6 | 28.2 |
Worked example 2: bread omelette with more oil
Same method and the same 100 g raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), 20 g onion, 3 g green chilli and 58 g white bread (2 slices of 29 g); the 5 g of oil becomes 15 g. This is our assumed recipe, not a measured plate.
| Ingredient (our weight) | Row | Grams | kcal per 100 g | kcal | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Egg, poultry, whole, raw | IFCT M001 | 100 g | 134.8 | 134.8 | 13.3 |
| Onion, big | IFCT G017 | 20 g | 48.0 | 9.6 | 0.3 |

| Bread, white, commercially prepared (includes soft bread crumbs) | SR Legacy 174924 | 58 g | 266.0 | 154.3 | 5.1 |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking (main case, about 1.1 tbsp) | SR Legacy 171410 | 15 g | 884.0 | 132.6 | 0.0 |
| Bread omelette with more oil, main case (one plate) | 432.6 | 18.8 |
The grid varies the raw raw egg per plate (50, 100, 150 g, with every other ingredient scaled by the same factor and rounded to 0.1 g) and the oil (10, 15, 20 g); the weights in the table above are the 100 g main case.
| raw egg per plate (all other ingredients scaled with it) | 10 g oil | 15 g oil | 20 g oil | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 g raw egg | 238.3 | 282.5 | 326.7 | 9.4 |
| 100 g raw egg (main case) | 388.4 | 432.6 | 476.8 | 18.8 |
| 150 g raw egg | 538.3 | 582.5 | 626.7 | 28.2 |
The two main cases side by side
These are the single examples used in the short answer; each follows from the tables above and from the weights in the cell.
| Main case (our weights) | kcal | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|
| Less oil, one plate: 100 g raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), 20 g onion, 3 g green chilli and 58 g white bread (2 slices of 29 g) and 5 g of peanut oil (about 1.1 teaspoons) | 344.2 | 18.8 |
| More oil, one plate: 100 g raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), 20 g onion, 3 g green chilli and 58 g white bread (2 slices of 29 g) and 15 g of peanut oil (about 1.1 tablespoons) | 432.6 | 18.8 |
What stands out in the numbers
- Less oil, part by part: the bread 154.3 kcal, the egg 134.8 kcal, the oil 44.2 kcal, the onion and green chilli 10.9 kcal. Raw whole egg is 134.8 kcal per 100 g (IFCT M001), white bread 266 kcal per 100 g (USDA 174924) and the oil 884 kcal per 100 g (USDA 171410).
- More oil, part by part: the bread 154.3 kcal, the egg 134.8 kcal, the oil 132.6 kcal, the onion and green chilli 10.9 kcal; against the less oil plate the oil is 88.4 kcal higher, and that is the whole difference between the plates.
- Size against oil: on the less oil plate the raw egg weight (50 to 150 g) moves it more than the oil (3 to 8 g): 300.0 kcal against 44.2 kcal; on the more oil plate the raw egg weight (50 to 150 g) moves it more than the oil (10 to 20 g): 300.0 kcal against 88.4 kcal. Each 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal.
- Protein: about 18.8 g in either plate (the oil adds none).
- These are estimates: no bread omelette record exists, the weights are ours, and a different weight of any ingredient in the tables above will change them.
Why these are estimates, not your bread omelette
- No record exists for the dish. IFCT 2017 prints raw foods and no cooked dish, and the USDA SR Legacy searches found no bread omelette record (0 results for bread omelette, 0 results for omelette, 3 results for egg bread). There is no SR Legacy bread omelette or omelette record (0 results for each); the 3 "egg bread" records are an egg-enriched loaf, its toasted form and a cornbread mix, not the dish, and none is used.
- The weights are assumptions. No table prints how much of each ingredient or of the oil a plate takes; ours are stated so you can replace them.
- Raw weights. No table prints the weight of the bread omelette after cooking, so the page counts raw weight and cannot give a per 100 g or per plate figure.
- Only the oil in the pan is counted. Oil used any other way, or left in the pan, is not counted unless it is in the oil weight.
- US data. The oil row and the bread (white, commercially prepared) row are US records; IFCT Table 1 has no oil row.
- Labels are printed, not judged. Calculated and Assumed zero are USDA's words on the record; we print them and draw no conclusion from them.
How to log it so the numbers hold
- Log it by parts. Weigh the raw ingredients once for your usual pan, and log the oil by its own weight (weight × figure ÷ 100); our ghee, oil and sugar guide has the spoon values.
- Say how much oil. It is an input this page cannot know; 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal.
- Say how the pan was divided. The page gives one plate from raw weights; divide the pan's total by the portions you actually made.
- Say what else went in. Anything not in the listed ingredients is not counted.

What this page leaves out
- A measured calorie figure for bread omelette as a dish: no primary record prints one, so every figure here is an estimate from stated weights.
- A calorie target, and any claim about what the ingredients or the oil do to your body: we have not looked up any for any person, so we give none. If you have a medical condition or are pregnant, ask your doctor or dietitian.
- Other versions and add-ins, such as butter on the bread, cheese, mayonnaise, extra eggs, a masala omelette with tomato and coriander and a street-stall bread omelette: not counted here; log them from their own rows (eggs by the piece are in our egg guide, bread by the slice in our bread slice guide).
- Other fats: ghee, butter and other oils were not looked up for this page.
- Shop, restaurant and packaged bread omelette: no table prints a weight or oil use, so we give no such figure; read the pack for packaged ones.
- Per 100 g and per plate figures: no table prints a cooked weight, so none is given here.
- Nutrients beyond energy, water, protein, fat, carbohydrate, fibre, total sugars and sodium: not covered here.

How many calories are in bread omelette?
No table prints one. IFCT 2017, the Indian Food Composition Tables from ICMR-NIN, prints raw foods (its few cooked rows are boiled and omelette eggs and roasted vermicelli), has no bread row, and has no bread omelette and no cooking oil row, and USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy has no bread omelette record. Worked from table rows and USDA peanut oil with weights that are our assumptions, one plate made from 100 g raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), 20 g onion, 3 g green chilli and 58 g white bread (2 slices of 29 g) and 5 g of peanut oil (about 1.1 teaspoons) comes to 344.2 kcal and 18.8 g protein; the same plate with more oil (100 g raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), 20 g onion, 3 g green chilli and 58 g white bread (2 slices of 29 g) and 15 g of peanut oil (about 1.1 tablespoons)) comes to 432.6 kcal and 18.8 g protein. These are estimates, not measured values.
How many calories are in 100 g or 1 plate of bread omelette?
This page does not give one. No table prints a cooked bread omelette or its weight, and the weight lost or gained in cooking is not printed anywhere, so a per 100 g or per plate figure would need a cooked weight we would be making up. The page works from stated raw weights instead; divide a plate's total by the number of portions you actually make.
How much protein is in bread omelette?
Estimated from table protein per 100 g with our weights: 18.8 g in either plate (the oil adds none). With raw egg from 50 to 150 g it runs 9.4 to 28.2 g. The 100 g of raw egg supplies 13.3 g (IFCT M001: 13.28 g per 100 g) and the 58 g of bread 5.1 g (USDA 174924: 8.85 g per 100 g).
Why is the more oil plate higher than the less oil plate?
Only the oil differs in this working: 15 g of peanut oil (132.6 kcal) against 5 g (44.2 kcal), by USDA SR Legacy 171410 at 884 kcal per 100 g. Everything else is the same, so the more oil plate is 88.4 kcal higher. The amounts of oil are our assumptions, not a measured plate.
How much does the oil add to bread omelette?
By USDA SR Legacy 171410 each 5 g of peanut oil is 44.2 kcal, each teaspoon (4.5 g) 39.8 kcal and each tablespoon (13.5 g) 119.3 kcal. On the less oil plate the raw egg weight (50 to 150 g, with everything else scaled) moves it more than the oil (3 to 8 g): 300.0 kcal against 44.2 kcal; on the more oil plate the raw egg weight (50 to 150 g, with everything else scaled) moves it more than the oil (10 to 20 g): 300.0 kcal against 88.4 kcal.
Does this include butter, mayonnaise, cheese, ketchup, toasting or salt?
No. Only the listed ingredients are counted: raw whole egg (2 eggs of 50 g), onion, green chilli, white bread (2 slices of 29 g) and peanut oil. Butter or mayonnaise on the bread, cheese, ketchup, toasting oil or ghee, tomato, coriander, salt, and a bread omelette sold as a sandwich, are not counted. The page gives no shop, restaurant or packaged bread omelette figure.
What does the label on the USDA oil record mean?
USDA's record page shows a data-type label beside some fields and none beside others. The peanut oil record labels kcal "Calculated" and total sugars "Assumed zero (Insignificant amount or not naturally occurring in a food, such as fiber in meat)"; the other fields show no label; everything is printed exactly in the label table on this page. The gram, teaspoon and tablespoon kcal are our arithmetic (printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100). IFCT 2017 prints no data-type labels.
