Try NYUS free on AndroidThe figures on this page are built from IFCT 2017 Table 1 rows and, where Table 1 has no row, USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy records. No primary table has a paneer pakora record: IFCT 2017, the Indian Food Composition Tables from ICMR-NIN, prints raw foods (its few cooked rows are boiled and omelette eggs and roasted vermicelli), has a plain paneer row (L003) but no besan or chickpea flour row, and has no paneer pakora, no fried dish and no cooking oil row, and USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy has no paneer pakora record. So this page does not quote a number. It works one plate out line by line: the paneer, green chilli, ginger and cumin seeds from named IFCT rows, the besan from a USDA record from named rows and the oil from a USDA record, with weights that are our assumptions and the oil shown apart so you can see what it adds, once with 12 g of oil and once with 25 g. They are estimates, shown so you can change the weights to match your pan. For an onion version see our onion pakora guide, for other pakoras our pakora guide, for plain paneer our paneer tikka guide, for besan by the cup our besan and flour per cup guide, and for the spoon values our ghee, oil and sugar guide.
The short answer
By our working, one plate of paneer pakora with a little oil (80 g paneer, 40 g besan (USDA chickpea flour), 3 g green chilli, 3 g fresh ginger and 1 g cumin seeds and 12 g of peanut oil (about 2.7 teaspoons)) is about 511.2 kcal and 24.4 g protein, and one plate with more oil (80 g paneer, 40 g besan (USDA chickpea flour), 3 g green chilli, 3 g fresh ginger and 1 g cumin seeds and 25 g of peanut oil (about 1.9 tablespoons)) is about 626.1 kcal and 24.4 g protein. Scaling the paneer from 60 to 100 g (every other ingredient scaled with it) and the oil from 8 to 16 g the less oil plate runs 374.8 to 648.0 kcal, and with 20 to 30 g of oil the more oil plate runs 480.9 to 771.8 kcal. These are estimates from the weights below, not measured values, not from a paneer pakora record and not a shop or restaurant figure. Our reading: the parts of the less oil main case rank the paneer 244.4 kcal, the besan 154.8 kcal, the oil 106.1 kcal, the green chilli, ginger and cumin seeds 5.9 kcal; the parts of the more oil main case rank the paneer 244.4 kcal, the oil 221.0 kcal, the besan 154.8 kcal, the green chilli, ginger and cumin seeds 5.9 kcal; and the more oil plate is 114.9 kcal above the other because only the oil differs.
Table rows used, per 100 g
IFCT 2017 Table 1 prints, per 100 g edible portion, water, protein, ash, total fat, total dietary fibre, insoluble and soluble fibre, carbohydrate and energy in kJ. We read these 4 rows from the PDF text on 3 November 2026, as the mean of the regions shown (PDF pages in the Sources); the kcal is ours (kJ divided by 4.184, to 0.1). IFCT prints no portion weights; every row here is raw, so we count raw weight, and the batter water and the weight the pakoras gain or lose in frying are not printed in any table; the paneer is counted as the plain row and the besan is the USDA chickpea flour record, which is not the same as every packet.

The oil and besan (chickpea flour): USDA SR Legacy, per 100 g
IFCT 2017 Table 1 has no cooking oil row and no besan or chickpea flour row, so those come from USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy; they are US records. Energy is USDA's kcal with the kJ beside it; water, protein, total fat and carbohydrate (by difference) are in g, then fibre (g), total sugars (g) and sodium (mg), all per 100 g.
| Food (USDA record name) | Source | Energy | Water · protein · fat · carbohydrate (g) | Fibre (g) · total sugars (g) · sodium (mg) |

The data-type label on each USDA field, as the record shows it
USDA's record page shows a data-type label beside some fields and none beside others. This table copies what the record shows, read field by field from the nutrient table of the record page; "no label shown" means the record prints no label there, and "not printed" means the record has no row for that field. We do not interpret the labels beyond printing them. IFCT 2017 prints no such labels.

The household portions USDA prints for the USDA records
These are the entries in the records' Measures lists, as printed; the other entry is 100 g. This page counts the oil in grams and takes 1 teaspoon as 4.5 g and 1 tablespoon as 13.5 g, the oil record's own measures. The kcal in the last column is ours: the printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100, shown to 0.1.
| Food (USDA record name) | Source | Portion as USDA prints it | Energy for the portion (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 tsp (4.5 g) | 39.8 kcal |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 cup (216 g) | 1909.4 kcal |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking | SR Legacy 171410 | 1 tbsp (13.5 g) | 119.3 kcal |
| Chickpea flour (besan) | SR Legacy 174288 | 1 cup (92 g) | 356.0 kcal |
The portion sums: 171410 1 tsp (4.5 g): 884 × 4.5 / 100 = 39.78, so 39.8 kcal; 171410 1 cup (216 g): 884 × 216 / 100 = 1909.44, so 1909.4 kcal; 171410 1 tbsp (13.5 g): 884 × 13.5 / 100 = 119.34, so 119.3 kcal; 174288 1 cup (92 g): 387 × 92 / 100 = 356.04, so 356.0 kcal. By the same arithmetic 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal and 10 g 88.4 kcal.
Worked example 1: paneer pakora with a little oil
Every weight here is our assumption for one plate, counted raw: paneer pieces coated in a besan batter with green chilli, ginger and cumin seeds and deep-fried, counted as one plate from the weights as the tables list them (our assumptions: 80 g of paneer and 40 g of besan); the oil is the oil the pakoras take up in frying, an amount we assume, not the oil put in the pan. Each IFCT line is the kJ divided by 4.184, times the grams, divided by 100, to 0.1 kcal; each USDA line is the printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100; protein is the table's protein per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100. Salt and spice powders are not counted.
| Ingredient (our weight) | Row | Grams | kcal per 100 g | kcal | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paneer | IFCT L003 | 80 g | 305.4 | 244.4 | 15.1 |

| Cumin seeds | IFCT G025 | 1 g | 304.5 | 3.0 | 0.1 |
| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking (main case, about 2.7 tsp) | SR Legacy 171410 | 12 g | 884.0 | 106.1 | 0.0 |
| Paneer pakora with less oil, main case (one plate) | 511.2 | 24.4 |
The grid varies the raw paneer per plate (60, 80, 100 g, with every other ingredient scaled by the same factor and rounded to 0.1 g) and the oil (8, 12, 16 g); the weights in the table above are the 80 g main case.
| paneer per plate (all other ingredients scaled with it) | 8 g oil | 12 g oil | 16 g oil | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 g paneer | 374.8 | 410.2 | 445.5 | 18.3 |
| 80 g paneer (main case) | 475.8 | 511.2 | 546.5 | 24.4 |
| 100 g paneer | 577.3 | 612.7 | 648.0 | 30.5 |
Worked example 2: paneer pakora with more oil
Same method and the same 80 g paneer, 40 g besan (USDA chickpea flour), 3 g green chilli, 3 g fresh ginger and 1 g cumin seeds; the 12 g of oil becomes 25 g. This is our assumed recipe, not a measured plate.
| Ingredient (our weight) | Row | Grams | kcal per 100 g | kcal | Protein (g) |

| Oil, peanut, salad or cooking (main case, about 1.9 tbsp) | SR Legacy 171410 | 25 g | 884.0 | 221.0 | 0.0 |
| Paneer pakora with more oil, main case (one plate) | 626.1 | 24.4 |
The grid varies the raw paneer per plate (60, 80, 100 g, with every other ingredient scaled by the same factor and rounded to 0.1 g) and the oil (20, 25, 30 g); the weights in the table above are the 80 g main case.
| paneer per plate (all other ingredients scaled with it) | 20 g oil | 25 g oil | 30 g oil | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 g paneer | 480.9 | 525.1 | 569.3 | 18.3 |
| 80 g paneer (main case) | 581.9 | 626.1 | 670.3 | 24.4 |
| 100 g paneer | 683.4 | 727.6 | 771.8 | 30.5 |
The two main cases side by side
These are the single examples used in the short answer; each follows from the tables above and from the weights in the cell.
| Main case (our weights) | kcal | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|
| Less oil, one plate: 80 g paneer, 40 g besan (USDA chickpea flour), 3 g green chilli, 3 g fresh ginger and 1 g cumin seeds and 12 g of peanut oil (about 2.7 teaspoons) | 511.2 | 24.4 |
| More oil, one plate: 80 g paneer, 40 g besan (USDA chickpea flour), 3 g green chilli, 3 g fresh ginger and 1 g cumin seeds and 25 g of peanut oil (about 1.9 tablespoons) | 626.1 | 24.4 |
What stands out in the numbers
- Less oil, part by part: the paneer 244.4 kcal, the besan 154.8 kcal, the oil 106.1 kcal, the green chilli, ginger and cumin seeds 5.9 kcal. Paneer is 305.4 kcal per 100 g (IFCT L003), besan 387 kcal per 100 g (USDA 174288) and the oil 884 kcal per 100 g (USDA 171410).
- More oil, part by part: the paneer 244.4 kcal, the oil 221.0 kcal, the besan 154.8 kcal, the green chilli, ginger and cumin seeds 5.9 kcal; against the less oil plate the oil is 114.9 kcal higher, and that is the whole difference between the plates.
- Size against oil: on the less oil plate the paneer weight (60 to 100 g) moves it more than the oil (8 to 16 g): 202.5 kcal against 70.7 kcal; on the more oil plate the paneer weight (60 to 100 g) moves it more than the oil (20 to 30 g): 202.5 kcal against 88.4 kcal. Each 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal.
- Protein: about 24.4 g in either plate (the oil adds none).
- These are estimates: no paneer pakora record exists, the weights are ours, and a different weight of any ingredient in the tables above will change them.
Why these are estimates, not your paneer pakora
- No record exists for the dish. IFCT 2017 prints raw foods and no cooked dish, and the USDA SR Legacy searches found no paneer pakora record (0 results for paneer pakora, 0 results for pakora). There is no SR Legacy record for paneer pakora or for pakora at all (0 results for each); besan is used as a separate ingredient record.
- The weights are assumptions. No table prints how much of each ingredient or of the oil a plate takes; ours are stated so you can replace them.
- Raw weights. No table prints the weight of the paneer pakora after cooking, so the page counts raw weight and cannot give a per 100 g or per plate figure.
- Only the oil in the pan is counted. Oil used any other way, or left in the pan, is not counted unless it is in the oil weight.
- US data. The oil row and the besan (chickpea flour) row are US records; IFCT Table 1 has no oil row.
- Labels are printed, not judged. Calculated and Assumed zero are USDA's words on the record; we print them and draw no conclusion from them.
How to log it so the numbers hold
- Log it by parts. Weigh the raw ingredients once for your usual pan, and log the oil by its own weight (weight × figure ÷ 100); our ghee, oil and sugar guide has the spoon values.
- Say how much oil. It is an input this page cannot know; 5 g of oil is 44.2 kcal.
- Say how the pan was divided. The page gives one plate from raw weights; divide the pan's total by the portions you actually made.
- Say what else went in. Anything not in the listed ingredients is not counted.

What this page leaves out
- A measured calorie figure for paneer pakora as a dish: no primary record prints one, so every figure here is an estimate from stated weights.
- A calorie target, and any claim about what the ingredients or the oil do to your body: we have not looked up any for any person, so we give none. If you have a medical condition or are pregnant, ask your doctor or dietitian.
- Other versions and add-ins, such as rice flour in the batter, a stuffed or sandwiched paneer pakora, air-fried pakoras and a street-stall or restaurant plate: not counted here; log them from their own rows (an onion pakora is in our onion pakora guide, other pakoras in our pakora guide, plain paneer in our paneer tikka guide, besan by the cup in our besan and flour per cup guide).
- Other fats: ghee, butter and other oils were not looked up for this page.
- Shop, restaurant and packaged paneer pakora: no table prints a weight or oil use, so we give no such figure; read the pack for packaged ones.
- Per 100 g and per plate figures: no table prints a cooked weight, so none is given here.
- Nutrients beyond energy, water, protein, fat, carbohydrate, fibre, total sugars and sodium: not covered here.

How many calories are in paneer pakora?
No table prints one. IFCT 2017, the Indian Food Composition Tables from ICMR-NIN, prints raw foods (its few cooked rows are boiled and omelette eggs and roasted vermicelli), has a plain paneer row (L003) but no besan or chickpea flour row, and has no paneer pakora, no fried dish and no cooking oil row, and USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy has no paneer pakora record. Worked from table rows and USDA peanut oil with weights that are our assumptions, one plate made from 80 g paneer, 40 g besan (USDA chickpea flour), 3 g green chilli, 3 g fresh ginger and 1 g cumin seeds and 12 g of peanut oil (about 2.7 teaspoons) comes to 511.2 kcal and 24.4 g protein; the same plate with more oil (80 g paneer, 40 g besan (USDA chickpea flour), 3 g green chilli, 3 g fresh ginger and 1 g cumin seeds and 25 g of peanut oil (about 1.9 tablespoons)) comes to 626.1 kcal and 24.4 g protein. These are estimates, not measured values.
How many calories are in 100 g or 1 plate of paneer pakora?
This page does not give one. No table prints a cooked paneer pakora or its weight, and the weight lost or gained in cooking is not printed anywhere, so a per 100 g or per plate figure would need a cooked weight we would be making up. The page works from stated raw weights instead; divide a plate's total by the number of portions you actually make.
How much protein is in paneer pakora?
Estimated from table protein per 100 g with our weights: 24.4 g in either plate (the oil adds none). With paneer from 60 to 100 g it runs 18.3 to 30.5 g. The 80 g of paneer supplies 15.1 g (IFCT L003: 18.86 g per 100 g) and the 40 g of besan 9.0 g (USDA 174288: 22.4 g per 100 g).
Why is the more oil plate higher than the less oil plate?
Only the oil differs in this working: 25 g of peanut oil (221.0 kcal) against 12 g (106.1 kcal), by USDA SR Legacy 171410 at 884 kcal per 100 g. Everything else is the same, so the more oil plate is 114.9 kcal higher. The amounts of oil are our assumptions, not a measured plate.
How much does the oil add to paneer pakora?
By USDA SR Legacy 171410 each 5 g of peanut oil is 44.2 kcal, each teaspoon (4.5 g) 39.8 kcal and each tablespoon (13.5 g) 119.3 kcal. On the less oil plate the paneer weight (60 to 100 g, with everything else scaled) moves it more than the oil (8 to 16 g): 202.5 kcal against 70.7 kcal; on the more oil plate the paneer weight (60 to 100 g, with everything else scaled) moves it more than the oil (20 to 30 g): 202.5 kcal against 88.4 kcal.
Does this include rice flour, ajwain, coriander, chaat masala, chutney or salt?
No. Only the listed ingredients are counted: paneer, besan (USDA chickpea flour), green chilli, fresh ginger, cumin seeds and peanut oil. Rice flour in the batter, ajwain, coriander leaves, chaat masala, red chilli powder, salt, the batter water, the frying oil left in the pan, and chutney or ketchup served with the pakoras, are not counted. The page gives no shop, restaurant or packaged paneer pakora figure.
What does the label on the USDA oil record mean?
USDA's record page shows a data-type label beside some fields and none beside others. The peanut oil record labels kcal "Calculated" and total sugars "Assumed zero (Insignificant amount or not naturally occurring in a food, such as fiber in meat)"; the other fields show no label; everything is printed exactly in the label table on this page. The gram, teaspoon and tablespoon kcal are our arithmetic (printed kcal per 100 g times the grams, divided by 100). IFCT 2017 prints no data-type labels.
